Design Process

Designing the Book Layout

I use my watercolours and fine liners, and then Procreate to create my illustrations. I often use Canva too for composition and editing.

To lay out my books for printing, I use Affinity Publisher, but I would advise anyone to use the software they feel most comfortable with, as there are plenty of options out there.

Options include Affinity, Adobe InDesign, Canva, and Microsoft Word and Microsoft Publisher, as long as you ensure you have the necessary print bleeds around pages and good image resolution.

Other options include QuarkXPress and Swift Publisher, among others.

Some print-on-demand publishers also have their own book design software you can use, such as BookWrite from Blurb or Kindle Direct Publishing on Amazon. Be aware that these publishers often restrict the size and format of the books they publish, but offer the benefit of on-demand printing and shipping.
